Title: Graphical Analysis of Motion -- Velocity

Purpose: To experimentally determine the velocity of an object through graphical analysis.

Materials: motion sensor, battery-operated car, Hot Wheels car, meter stick

Procedure:

  1. Run 1: Begin recording data. While holding the battery-operated car, start the car. Place it on the table at least 40 cm from the motion sensor. It should be directed in a straight line away from the motion sensor.
  2. Run 2: Begin recording data. While holding the battery-operated car, start the car. Place it on the table at least 140 cm from the motion sensor. It should be directed in a straight line toward the motion sensor.
  3. Run 3: Place the Hot Wheels car on the table at least 40 cm from the motion sensor. It should be directed in a straight line away from the motion sensor. Begin recording data. Give the car a good push.
